The sailor's term for "overboard". It refers to a nautical unit of measurement, the fathom, considered to be about six feet.
After a stroll along the pond's edge, the player faces the longest hole here at Boothbay. At well over 500 yards, and playing uphill all the way to a dogleg right, three solid shots are required to reach the green. A difficult uphill drive over water is followed by an ever-tightening landing area for the second shot. This gently sloping green is protected by a bunker in the front.
